Chinese manufacturing industry faces great opportunity and big chanllenge. The machine tool industry is the hard core of the manufacturing industry. One of the hot research subjects of virtual manufacturing technology is VMT (Virtual Machine Tool).VMT (Virtual Machine Tool), whose major content is NC machining simulation, can remarkably shorten the cycle of exploitation, reduce the cost of production and improve the quality of product, and now it is widely applied. In this paper, research on the NC machining simulation of the 3-axis numerical controlled milling machine is carried out with the software UG and VERICUT.In this paper, the history, the contents and status quo of research, and the prospect of application of VMT are researched systematically. The structure, function, parameters and NC system of numerical controlled milling machine are comprehended roundly. The software UG and VERICUT are also studied deeply.The virtual models of the NC milling machine and the part that will be machined are established with the UG/CAD, then programming is accomplished with UG/CAM, and finally the program is export in the form of G code.After importing the model of the NC milling machine and the part, as well as the NC program from UG, The NC machining simulation is carried out with VERICUT, and the tool path is optimized and the production quality is checked up.The theoretical part of the research is verified by experiment, and the feasibility of the VMT research through UG and VERICUT is testified.
