Dies are used extensively in trade of electro-mechanical.Many research departments focus on improving dies technology ,reducing the cycle of dies design and manufacture.Dies CAD technology can reduce labor strength and increase labor efficiency.So it becomes a hot spot.In the paper,the problem in development of drawing dies CAD system based on assembly and variant design was discussed.Firstly,a top skeleton consisted of structure skeleton of die and feature skeleton of components was used.Design information was translated through the top skeleton to low parts.Secondly, custom development was studied and a kind of method was presented to manage the CAD model database by static and dynamic data,and MenuScript UG/Open and MFC control was integrated. At last a die CAD prototype system was developed based on assembly and variant design concept,which could be used in drawing die design.Successful development of the system demonstrated that assembly and variant design concept is feasible.It can be used in another mould assembly design through extending.Variant design based on assembly can increase labor efficiency and reduce labor strength,avoid repeat work and possess practical value.At the end of the paper,the total work was summaried,and an expectation of future development was given.
