As the market becomes more international and the development of modern science and technology, the technology and complexity of products is increasing, however, the product life cycle have been continuously reduced. Meanwhile manufacturing enterprises is changing from originally one-fold stable large-scale production methods to complicated and changeable customization product mode, which makes the original design and manufacturing technology has been unable to meet the current market demands. That improving the rapid design ability is very urgent for the design and manufacture with customization product mode. This paper systematically examined the variant design theory and key technology, proposed the variant design methods based on Tabular Layouts of Article Characteristics and developed the variant design prototype system. All these have been applied and inspected on the science and technology plan projects of Zhejiang province. (Project Numbers: 2008C01059-2)-《-Research and application of digital design and Manufacturing integration technology of Electric tools》.Through the technology of Tabular Layouts of Article Characteristics, 3d CAD technology, parametric master document technology, database technology and Product information main model construction technology, we studied the variant design methods based on Tabular Layouts of Article Characteristics, realize the variant design of product components and process variant design of product parts and rapidly meet the customers'requirements. This paper mainly studies the key technology of product variant design and process variant design, specifically including:In the 1st chapter,the product variant design and process variant design concept was proposed based on the discussion of the meaning and range of the research, detailed analysis current research and its shortcomings of the variant design home and abroad, given the route and objectives of the thesis at last.In the 2nd chapter, pointed out that variant design studied in this paper including product variant design and process variant design, analysis the basic principles of the current variant design, on this basis, given the SML overview and structure, and analysis the variant design system framework based on SML.It also given the system framework of product variant design and process variant design individual.In the 3rd chapter, the modeling method of the main product information which supported variant design is proposed, the unit cell of the product structure and process information was encapsulated in the main product information. Analysis of the product restructuring, group technology and integration technology for structure information and process information, on the basis of this, studied the dynamic establishment methods for the SML of geometric model (including parts and components).In the 4th chapter, on the basis of construction method for main model SML of product process information, parametric method of the main document, the create methods of the main process planning template library and examples of process documents derived, the key technology of variant design process is given, analysis the process design methods of Rotary Parts and non-rotary parts of electric tools which representatived by the shaft and the hole parts.In the 5th chapter, introduced the integration principles, methods and processes for variant systems and CAD systems based on the registry and macro recording approach, analysis of the traversal methods for the characteristics of master model, explained some function, researched the design methods of creating new SML and modify the SML subsystem, it also analysis the method of process variant design and the contents of some database tables.In the 6th chapter, developed the variant design system based on the theory of this paper. Given the system development and operating environment, system installation method, analysis of the key modules and methods of operation product variant design system and process variant design system; and introduced the results of power tools in the system running.In the 7th chapter, summarizing the content and innovation of this paper, and given the prospect of future work papers.
