The low metamorphic coals are abundant in North Shannxi. The low metamorphic coal is a kind of perfect materials used carbonization of coal at low temperature, which has the character of chemical activity, high volatile matter, high heating value, without caking property and so on. The main way to process local produced coal is carbonization at lower temperature with semicoke, coal tar, coal gas, and so on as the products. How to optimize the process and promoting the all-round use is the key aspect. The relevant research is of great importance to the local economy.Based on the relevant works and field investigation, the research is carried out in the following aspects:(1) Characteristic of low metamorphic coals from North Shannxi Province are analyzed, and many factors which can affect the carbonization results of low metamorphic coals are studied, such as temperature, keeping time, and the particle. Meanwhile, the differences of prominence about effects of factors and best technological conditions are found by the means of perpendicularity analysis.(2) The properties of semicoke from North Shannxi and coke from Shanxi are compared. The differences are analyzed. It is found that semicoke from North Shannxi is more suitable for ferroalloy and Calcium carbonite production.(3) The research on practical process in North Shannxi is carried out from the calculation of materials balance and heat balance. The yield rate and thermal efficiency are evaluated.(4) The feasibility of the relevant technical method is discussed to the problems such as lower heating value of the coal gas, the poor comprehensive use of the coal gas and so on.The results can be helpful to local semicoke production and technology development.
