Because of the large flexibility and good coordination capability of Schiff base ligands, the studies on Schiff base metal complexes are paid much attention, with lots of novel properties showing in biochemistry, catalysis, electrochemistry, etc. Therefore, we firstly synthesized and characterized three Schiff base ligands and their transition metal Zn( II) complexes. We studied the elimination rates to hydroxyl free radical and function with DNA of these compounds.1. A brief view of the research of progress and biological activity for Schiff base compounds were given.2. Three Schiff base ligands and their transition metal Zn( II) complexes were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, IR, UV and ~1HNMR.3. We studied the elimination action to hydroxyl free radical (·OH) of Schiff base and their Zn( II ) complexes by spectrophotom. The result proved that six compounds had good antioxidant action. Complexes' antioxidant capability was ZnL~3 >ZnL~1 >ZnL~2.4. We studied the function with DNA six compounds by UV and fluorescence spectro. ZnL~3 and ZnL~1 bond DNA by insertion action, while ZnL~2 bond DNA bypart-insertion action.Their combinability was ZnL~3 >ZnL~1 >ZnL~2.
