As the fundamental device in manufacturing complex-profile product with high quality and high precision, CNC (Computer Numerical Control) system is regarded as the primary equipment in advanced manufacturing technology. The work of this thesis are the preparation of the next generation of Huazhong CNC system. The thesis discusses the development of the hardware and the software of embedded NC system platform theoretically and practically that includes the design of the hardware platform, NC system interface and the layout of software platform as a whole. The principle and application of Intel XScale PXA 255 processor is researched that is based on the basic structure of NC system and ARM (Advanced RISC Machines) processor. The NC system platform based on the universal NC system hardware structure is designed. This platform involves the processor, the modules of peripheral device and the NC system interfaces including the feed axis interface, spindle interface and the build-in PLC with a SCM (Single Chip Micyoco) core. Windows CE.NET's real-time capability, interrupt response and multitask schedule is researched based on the analyse of the parts of its source code. At the same time, some real-time operation systems such as uC/OS-II and LINUX are contrasted with WinCE.NET. The software scheme in Windows CE.NET is proposed based on the software structure that is researched in LINUX. Moreover the division and the function of the tasks and the communication scheme is researched. Then the interfaces of these tasks are given. The summary is made at the end of the thesis and further research work on it is put forward at the same time.
