Welding is a very important step in making the car body in white. The welding quality is good or not acts crucial role to the car quality. But a robot has many welding points to weld, how to look for a route that all over all the welding points. And look for a route of shortest distance and shortest time. It means great to improving the working efficiency of the welding robot.But the way and the theory used in doing the welding route planning in our country's auto factory does not reach the advanced level of the world, the plans they done are not perfect, and always occur that the welding routes are not reasonable, it prolongs the product cycle, so it is very necessary to advance a reasonable way to do the welding route planning and program a software which can do the layout.The welding route planning problem is not only using mathematic way to looking for a route that through all the welding points and the distance is the shortest one. It is a very complicated problem, and concerns many project complications. So before doing the welding route planning, the paper studies the car body welding process, and studies the three objects of the welding route planning: parts, welding process and the product resource, and analyses the impact of the layout. After that, advanced the mathematic model of the planning, analyst the archetype of the welding route planning is traveling salesman problem. According to the characteristic of the welding of the car body, chooses GA as the planning arithmetic. Then according to the characteristic of the solution of the problem that the solution mast form to a closed loop, chosen random key expression as the coding, the welding time as the value, PMX as the across way, crossing over variance as the variance way. Then using VC++ program the software of planning, at last, take a robot for example, use the software to do the welding route planning, and using CATIA to imitate to route.
