As a new type of environmental conscious printing and packaging material, water-based ink, with the advantages of environmental protection, sanitation, economy and having good printability and so on, is being well used in graphic arts trade. However, water-based ink produced in home has the problem of bad stability, water-repellency, glossiness and low adhesive fastness at present, which has badly blocked the widespread application of it. In the drying by evaporation of water-based ink, it turns into solidified ink film with the evaporation of aqua ammonia. Aqua ammonia has an offensive odor, which is bad to the improvement of working condition of printing operation and the health of pressman. Aimed at these practical statuses, a research is launched on this paper.Based on the right recognition of the structure system and the application mechanism of the water-based ink, the influence factors of stability, water-repellency and glossiness are analyzed systematically. Under the precondition for improving the stability, water-repellency and glossiness, the most fundamental formulation of the water-based ink is studied and tested through experiments. The previous theoretical analyses are combined. The water-based ink formulations are adjusted continuously, and the results are compared and analyzed. Meanwhile, an odorless amine of weak volatility AMP-95 instead of a part of aqua ammonia is used in the formulation. Then the appropriate formulation and processing of water-based ink are found and tested. A type of water-based ink of weak odor and good stability, water-repellency, glossiness is made. Experiments find that the stable dispersion of the water-based ink can help to improve the stability, water-repellency and glossiness; the amine substance AMP-95 can well harmonize the stability of pH value and viscosity of water-based ink; the amount of the water in the water-based ink and the surface tension of it may have a biggish affection to the glossiness; the thickness of ink film has a effect on the glossiness of water-based ink; titanate coupling agent has a effect on the stability, water-repellency, glossiness of water-based ink.
