Eucalyptus is one of ten essential oils, and it has been used widely in many fields, such as industry, pharmacy and spicery. This paper studied the ways of extract and separate 1,8-cineole from eucalyptus oil. The study includes: 1. Using water distillation and SC-CO2 to extract eucalyptus, and analyzing the compositions of eucalyptus oil by GC-MS. It is showed that 31substances are identified in essential oil extracted by water distillation, and the content of 1,8-cineole is 54.73%; while more than 20 substances are identified in essential oil extracted by SC-CO2, and the content of 1,8-cineole is less than 10%. Compared the advantage and disadvantage of the two extraction ways, we decide use water distillation to extract essential oil from eucalyptus leaves. 2. It is known by the analytic result of GC-MS that the main substances of essential oil are terpenes, and the large of which are isomeric compounds of 1,8-cineole. Because of their similar physical properties and the quality of thermo-sensitive, it's difficult to purify and separate the 1,8-cineole from essential oil . 3. Using intermittent reduced pressured distillation and molecular distillation to separate the essential oil. Compared the two ways, we can conclude the intermittent reduced pressure distillation is the best way to separate 1,8-cineole from essential oil. The ideal condition be determined to prevent thermo-sensitive substances oxidizing and decomposing, and to increase the content of 1,8-cineole to 95% above at the same time. We can draw the conclusion that the best way is using water distillation to extract essential oil, and then using the intermittent reduced pressured distillation to separate 1,8-cineole from the essential oil.
