Since the nation established the policy of west development, the investments inXinjiang become very great. Particularly petroleum engineering. But as more fragileecosystems and poor geographical environment in Xinjiang, soil erosion is veryserious. The survey and research is based on Urumqi in Xinjiang and the area of HongliuRiver which is at the border of Xin-Gan. It vias Miquan City, the Urumqi City, TurpanCity, Shanshan County, Hami City, about 787km. From the macro perspective, thetypes of landform include Urumqi plains, Turpan Basin and Hami Basin, Bogedamountains, plains and rugged Gobi in front of mountain region, and Nanhu Gobi. There are lower hills, alluvial plain, swamps, wetlands, denuded-remnant highland, hilly area and saline lands in the area where pipelines come by.The survey area was divided into five districts. There are Urumqi survey area,Shanshan forepart, Shanshan - Hami survey area, the middle part and back part ofHami district. Through the surveys of vegetation, climate, soil and water conservationthere, we can find out the characteristics of the soil erosion, the complex soil erosiontypes, the great erosion intensity, and we find that erosion time is in a very unevenyear. For the development in recent years, human activity is causing serious soilerosion. The survey regions have dry climate, rainfalls every year are between50mm~150mm in most area. There have strong sandstorms and gales, thinvegetation, fragile ecological environment. The constructions easily induce a newartificial soil erosion. The impact factors of soil erosion mainly contain disturbingoriginal landforms, destroying soil structure and surface vegetation. The effects ofdifferent human activities to soil erosion along the line have certain differences. This survey focused on the effects of soil and water conservation by oil pipelineprojects in the investigate region, so it undertaked partial analysis on the similarproject activities...
