Climate change is one major global issue to international community at present, and has been attached great importance by our meteorology, environment and government departments. One of the important factors which cause global climate change is the rapid increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The organic material will be anaerobic decomposed by methane bacteria when municipal solid waste (MSW) is processing in landfills, thus methane will be emitted to the atmosphere. The greenhouse effect of the methane is only inferior to the carbon dioxide. As an important man-made source, the calculation of the emission amount of the CH4 in the landfills plays an important role and significance in estimating the climate change influence which is caused by the increase of greenhouse gases. On the basis of IPCC recommended default method about the calculation of CH4 emission amount from MSW landfills, this paper analyzes the various factors which affect China's methane emission from landfills, including MSW production, processing rate, methane amendment factors, degradable organic carbon content and oxidation factor. Because MSW production is the primary factor for methane emission, so tests and analyzes the correlation with its impact factors. On the above basis, establishes the MSW production estimating models and uses different models to estimate the future MSW production, the non-agriculture population model is better than the GDP and per capita GDP model in reflecting China's future actual situation.Through practical researching and sampling measurement, identifies 6.5% as degradable organic carbon (DOC) (weight) percentile in recent years. In light of MSW managing status in every province, invalidated MSW management degree in different regions, and this provides precondition for calculating methane emission. Finally, puts the focus on the China methane emission and net emission from MSW landfills in 2004, including minimum value, maximum value and the IPCC recommended value, and takes the 1994 emission situation for comparison: theamount of methane emission was about 1.7 times in 2004 compared with emission in 1994. Meanwhile, analyzes and discusses the methane emission and net emission trends from 1994 to 2004: the growth of methane emission relatively slow froml995 to 2000;but, it begin to accelerate noticeably from 2000 to 2004.
