The paper discusses surface movement and deformation caused by strip mining with the technique of combining theoretic analysis, equivalent material simulation and computation.By test of equivalent material simulation,the procedure and range of the covered -rook damage and the rules of surface movement and deformation caused by mining steep coal seam are disclosed , the probability-integral parameter can be worked out also. For the abnormal values or gross error is inevitable during the observation, the emanative result of parameter often comes forth by probability-integral method. For that, the author set up a robust estimation model of getting probability-integral parameter by robust estimation theory, which makes sure that the result of parameter are reliable.The concept of strip mining is expounded, the pivotal problems about the proportion of mining width and reserved pillar's width and the reserved pillar's stability are discussed in the paper. For Xu Gang Mine's coal resource can be mined reasonably and the establishments on the surface can be protected, two projects of strip mining are set up according to the mine's fact. At last, a rational mining project is adopted based on synthetical analysis.The adoptive project is that the mining width is 30m, the reserved pillar is 25m.For resolving the problem that the error is too great using probability-integral method predict the surface subsidence caused by strip mining, the papaer adopts the method that Dr.Guo Zengzhang brought forward, combining the traditional probability integration method and normal function, and makes the subsidence estimation model more perfect.Using the visual program language Visual Basic6.0, the author programmes the program of getting probability-integral parameters and the program of surface movement and deformation caused by strip mining.At last, taking Xu Gang Mine as an example, the rule of surface movement and deformation caused by strip mining can be gained by computing. It is valuable that the production of this paper to other coal mines which have similar geological and mining condition.
