The design and synthesis of functional ferrocenecarboxylato-containing coordination complexes have come into being one of the most attractive research fields in modern material chemistry. In this paper, several ferrocenecarboxylato-containing complexes were obtained by treating 1,1'-bisferrocenylsuccinic salt (NaO2CCH2CH2COFcCOCH2CH2CO2Na) or N-ferrocenylmethyl-phenylalanine salt (FcCH2NHCH(CH2Ph)COONa) with some metal ions under the help of some subsidiary ligands. Furthermore, their syntheses, structural analysis, electrochemical properties, UV spectra, fluorescent properties and third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) behaviors were also studied.Firstly, treatment of NaO2CCH2CH2COFcCOCH2CH2CO2Na with Zn(OAc)2·2H2O or Cd(Ac)2·2H2O in presence of imidazole afforded two complexes 1 and 2. 1 is a symmetry binuclear complex in which two ferrocenecarboxylato units connects two metal ions leading to circular chains with four imidazole units acting as subsidiary ligands in the side chain. In the structures of the complex 2, two ferrocenecarboxylato units coordinated to the metallic ions in the ways of η2 leading to a one-dimensional chain polymer with two imidazole units acting as subsidiary ligands in the side chain. Complexes 1 and 2 possess similar three-order nonlinear optical absorptive and refractive effects. Complex 4 was prepared by the reaction of NaO2CCH2CH2COFcCOCH2CH2CO2Na with Cd(Ac)2·2H2O under the participance of subsidiary ligand 4-amino-pyridine(apy).Compared to the complex 2,two complexes have the similar molecular structure and coordination mode. Secondly, we synthesized the complex 3 with NaO2CCH2CH2COFcCOCH2CH2CO2Na and Zn(OAc)2·2H2O in presence of 4,4'-trimethylene-dipyridine (tmp). In the structures of 3, ferrocenecarboxylato units coordinated to the metallic ions in the ways of μ1 and η2, two N atoms of the bridging ligand tmp coordinated to two metallic ions. The neighborly molecular structures leaded to a one-dimensional dentate chain polymer.Finally, we obtained a single nuclear complex 5 by treating the ligand FcCH2NHCH(CH2Ph)COONa with Zn(OAc)2·2H2O.
