With the intensification of eco-environmental problems, ecosystem service functions are more deeply known. People are gradually realizing that maintaining and protecting ecosystem service function is not only the base of human existence and modern civilization, but also the precondition of sustainable development. The purpose of this research is to use Costanza's methods for calculating ecosystem service value (such as market value method, cost expenditure method, shadow engineering method, alternative cost method, opportunity cost method, etc.) to assess and evaluate the ecosystem value in Shenyang City, including forest ecosystem, farmland ecosystem, grassland ecosystem, orchard ecosystem, and water ecosystem. The study showed that in 2004 the total value of ecosystem service functions was RMB 7.4×1010 Yuan, which accounts for 40% of the GDP of Shenyang. The direct economic value was RMB 1.0×1010 Yuan, whereas the indirect economic value was RMB 6.4×1010 Yuan, which was about 6.4 times of the direct economic value. Each ecosystem showed the importance in ecosystem service as forest > farmland > water > orchard > grassland. The ecosystem service functions in Shenyang ranked in decreasing order of importance as follows: climate regulation, carbon fixation and oxygen release, purification of environment, water conservation, service of soil conservation, and tour function. The value of ecosystem service functions of water conservation, service of soil conservation and tour function was relatively low. Thus, city planning and landscape architecture should pay much attention to these ecosystem service functions in future. Ecosystem has immensely...
