The blast furnace profile design has an extremely important influence to the blast-furnace smelting process and the technical and economic indicator of iron-smelting production. But actually it is the extremely complex and tedious work. At present, improving the blast furnace profile design efficiency and strengthening information exchange are always in urgent request. Being with its high speed and precise computation ability, large capacity memory and effective data-handling capability, the computer-aided design system for blast furnace profile enormously simplifies the design process, speeds up the design course, reduces the design cycle, and enhances the design efficiency and quality. In view of the method and characteristic of blast furnace profile design, the paper has done the work about the computer-aided design system for blast furnace profile. Its main research content is as follows:(1) The basic knowledge related to blast furnace profile design is introduced. The characteristic and the developing tendency of blast furnace profile design are analyzed, and the design request, the main content and the main standard are introduced. After an analysis of the design method and flow, it is indicated that to research and utilize computer technology in blast furnace profile design domain is necessary.
