| Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) has very good physical and chemical properties. As its application in the non-fiber area keeps getting wider, some of its drawbacks begin to show themselves. In order to expand its application, it has become a popular research subject to fuctionalize PET.In this study, we first built a reactor specially designed for the synthesis of PET. We made some alterations to a prototype model reactor and got what we want: a reactor which is compacted, easy to operate, low gas-leaking, and so on. Then we used this reactor to conduct research in the functionalization of PET, in an effort to inhance some of its properties. Specifically, we synthesized low-cost, high-shrinkage polyester film and high barrier polyester.(1) Research and development of barrier materials has become hot these years. While enjoying good overall property, PET's barrier property is not good enough. It is expected to have huge potential in the barrier packaging market if its barrier property could be enhanced.In this study, we used GE(glycerol) as comonomer, substituting part of EG(Ethylene Glycol), to modify the molecular structure of PET.
