On the basis of three databases, Tsinghua Tongfang's CJFD (title) Database, China PatentInformation Database and NSFC's projects database, using the method of scientometrics, suchas keywords frequency analysis, keywords co-occurrence analysis, Price Law and Lorenz curveprinciple of economy statistics, we do some research on the state of China's nanotechnologystudy. this dissertation has shown the topic distribution of Chinese nanotechnology papers andpatents, which draw the outline of the nanotechnology field where Chinese scientists have beenexploring over the past eight years. The hot topics , weaknesses of Chinese nanotechnology study, the R&D manpower distribution and the state of governmental funding support are analyzed. Asthe professional terms defining the field of nanotechnology, the 79 keywords are provided by theNational Research Council of Canada. The research results of the dissertation are as follows: First, The hot topics of Chinese nanotechnology research is on nanomaterial characteristicsand preparation. Compared with this, the study on nano-dimension representation and detectiontools is the weaknesses of Chinese nanotechnology study. Second, in general, the scientific research manpower of nanotechnology in Chinesemainland is scattered in thirty provinces and municipalities excluding Tibet. As a high-tech, themain power is still concentrated on some productive organizations and regions. Third, according to the society and economy development of our country, the researchtopics of nanotechnology are choicely funded. Our government mostly funds the research onnanomaterial synthesization and preparation. The stronger the scientific capability of aorganization or a region is, the more likely it is to be funded. The yearly increase of the R&Dmanpower of nanotechnology research shows that nanotechnology has developed rapidly overthe past years. The main realistic meaning of this study is that the quantitative analysis on the state ofChinese nanotechnology research and development would offer some information to thedecision-making and management of Chinese nanotechnology from the view of scientometrics,so that nanotechnology development is promoted further in our country.
