Selecting cutting parameters is an important aspect of establishing woodwork process techniques. Quality of finish products, productivity, and the cost of process will be directly influenced by the cutting parameters. However, it is relatively difficult to determine the optimal cutting parameters due to the numerous factors which affect the cutting parameters. Those factors intersect and restrict one another.Cutting parameters were determined according to the actual processing experiences of technologist primarily. But the parameters will be different between different persons and factories. Thus, actual benefits differ greatly. Determing cutting parameters just depend on personal experience can't be accommodated in this highly developed era with the new materials' continual development accompany with the extensive application of Numerical machines, processing center and flexible manufacture system(FMS).Therefore, how to determine a logical cutting parameters becomes a really important issue which is need to handled impatiently.Visual Basic6.0 was used as development platform in this research. Programming language of Visual Basic6.0 and database language of Microsoft Access2000 was applied as the tools of system exploring. With the genetic algorithm as the means of optimization, cutting speed and each tooth feed are formulated quickly and reasonably according the cutting tools, materials and processing quality and so on. The system of optimize cutting parameters based on Windows system was built. Works were finished mainly as follow:1 The optimization of the milling parameters of a milling operation has been developed and the alternate interfaces were developed using the programming method of orient object.2 After the entity-relationship model is converted to the relation model, the design of engineering database of milling parameters has been completed by using the common relation database.3 Based on the theories of the cutting wood, the study has developed the conditional optimization model by the functions of milling parameter's optimization, the function of the constraint condition machine tool, cutting tool, material, etc, and the Genetic algorithm.This paper have realized Genetic algorithm for the first time in wood processing cut of application in the aspect of parameter optimization, it has offered foundation to study further, and have important meaning for the wood development of processing machinery in the direction of numerical control.
