Cathode design is a key technique in ECM. The whole process is affected by electrochemical dissolution, electric field and magnetic field. The gap varies when the time and space change in the pricess. So, the shape of cathode is not the same as workpiece shape. Cathode shape approximation of iterative revising in application increases cost and preparing time.Aiming at the problem, two methods for design the cathode shape of kidney slot were introduced in the paper.1) Based on"cosθ"approach, using Visual C++ and three-dimension graphic standard—OpenGL, the cathode was designed and validated by finite element method.2) Boundary-adjusting method was adopted in the paper. The initial cathode boundary was designed by"cosθ"method, and workpiece shape was regarded as the anode boundary. An iterating algortithm was programed with Visual C++ 6.0 that called ANSYS 8.0 software to analyze the distribute of electric field in gap. The anode boundary electric-field intensity was computed by finite element method. Then, the deviation between electric-field intensity and its theoretical value at the anode boundary was computed and the objective function was gained based on...
