Reverse engineering (RE) is a new subject and technology coming up with the development of computer science and digitized measurement technology. Its basic step includes: data measure of model surface, points pretreatment, surface reconstruction, and the digital model export.This paper studies a method about digitized measurement of the large-scale parts and the complex curved surfaces. Putting forward a basic theory that should be followed when measuring the large-scale complex parts employing extensive used non-contact measurement. Then discusses the optical measurement method especially, founds a method and step about digitized measurement of large-scale complex parts. The ATOS optical scanning system is used to measure the automobile bonnet, gauge board, etc.This paper discusses a method about the data processing to point cloud data. It's including: reduction processing, noise removed, and data made up, divinized as well as aligned and so on.In this paper, the essential theory of surface reconstruction in the reverse engineering are explored. Further more, two kinds of methods about reconstructing the curved surface are researched: One kind of rebuilding model is based on point -line -surface. It utilizes EDS Company's Imageware12 and UG NX3.0 software, using large-scale complex parts: the automobile bonnet, gauge board, etc. as examples, a series of key techniques are discussed and studied from point cloud data preprocessing, characteristic curve abstracted, complicated surface reconstruction, three-dimensional CAD model constructed to model precision test; Another kind is based on point– surface's direct fitting. Try to utilize Materialise Company's 3Matic software, regarding the automobile bonnet, gauge board as the examples, preliminarily researches how to utilize this software to repair, edit the triangulated data and obtain a three-dimensional model.
