In this paper, the N-(11-carboxyundecyl)maleimide (CUMI) was perpared with 12-aminododecanoic and maleic anhydride through two steps reactions. The sulfuric acid/triethylamine were used as catalysts. The factors which influenced on the yield of N-(11-carboxyundecyl)maleimide, including catalysts, solvents and reaction time were discussed. The trimer of N-(11-carboxyundecyl)maleimide was synthesised using phenol and triphenylphosphine as catalysts through Ylid-reaction. The tripolymerization mechanism of N-(11-carboxyundecyl)maleimide was explained elaborately. A series of factors influenced on the radical copolymerization of N-(11-carboxyundecyl)maleimide and hydroxypropyl methacrylate, such as monomer compositions, reaction time and solvents were studied throughly. The bicopolymer of N-(11-carboxyundecyl)maleimide and hydroxypropyl methacrylate was prepared through radical initiation polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization method.
