With the development of electron, communication and computer technology, the community has stepped into network age. Modern production needs more and more network management and control. For welding field, one of its important developmental tendencies is to research new kind of welding machine taking on character of digital and networking.A kind of arc welding controller that can communicate by Ethernet has been developed in this paper. This controller has two MCUs(Micro-Controller Unit). One MCU charges for arc welding process and data sampling, another charges for communication of arc welding process information between arc-welder and PC. Two MCUs implement data exchange in shared memory.In this paper, choosing C8051F020 with high speed and abound resources as core, a data sampling circuit that has simple structure, high reliability and maintainability is designed. To set welding current and sample data, we have worked out corresponding program.In this paper, new style communication module which takes C8051F020 MCU and CS8900A Ethernet controller as core and takes TCP?IP protocol as communication protocol has been developed, making arc welding controller have the capability of Ethernet communication. Besides for making operation conveniently, a man-machine interface has designed by use of LabVIEW software. Thus in one computer on networking the controller can efficiently carry out monitoring and controlling the welding machine.After test of the arc welding controller, results show that the function of controller have attained the requirement of design, at the same time the useful function of welding machine has expanded. Consequently the controller can realize network control of arc welding process.
