The technology of ELID grinding has a very extensive outlook on research and application because of its trait of electrolysis dressing. But the problems during the process of electrolysis dressing limit the applications of this technology. In order to exert grinding wheel's merits of high rigidity,well kept figure and strong force holding grinding grains, we must find ways to ensure the intensity and figure precision of grinding wheel when it is being electrolyzing. These ways will affect the generalizing and application of ELID grinding fundamentally.The article's writer analyzed the factors which affect the electrolysis dressing first. Then the writer designed figure of cathode and multifunctional power supply for the special uses of ELID grinding. The power supply was designed into three parts.(1) The part of adjustable DC voltage-stabilized: Buck switching regulator topology and voltage feedback control were applied to this design to make the output voltage stabilized which can also be adjusted smoothly in a range of 0~110V. The quotiety of the ripple of output voltage is about 5%. The predigested mathematical modeling of this part was founded during the process of design and based on which , PI adjuster of the tache of feedback has been designed to reduce the ripple. This part can be used for mirror grinding and quantified researches of ELID.(2) The part of DC pulse IGBT was used to cut DC voltage into pulse which can be applied on the electrolysis dressing of wheel directly. The time percentage of the pulse during a whole switching period can be adjusted in a range of 0~95%. The pulse frequency can also be adjusted from 2k to 20kHz. After electrolysis dressing, the wheel still keeps high intensity and this makes the wheel adept to deep and high speed grinding.(3) The part of EDM dressing A resistance was jointed after the output of DC pulse part to realize the EDM dressing of grinding wheel. Based on the fact of grinding wheel, various discharge parameters can be selected. In the EDM dressing experiment, the wheel's roundness error we gained is about 4.26μm and the wheel can be used to grind directly.
