The polyurethane foams containing bamboo charcoal stuff were synthesized via one step method. The composites exhibited possible application for their adsorbent capability and foam properties.In this paper, we mainly studied the optimal synthesis condition, the interface intermiscibility of bamboo charcoal/polyether polyol, the dispersion and the influence of bamboo charcoal to the properties of the foam and the influence on foaming behavior and microphase separation. It was revealed that bamboo charcoal not only functioned as adsorptive stuff, but also served as solid powder emulsifier, nucleating agent (bubble nucleating agent, crystal nucleating agent), solid powder stabilizer agent during the process of reaction. Then we bulit two models about microcosmic transformation of the foaming, emulsion and stabilization processes. The mechanical and thermal properties of materials were assessed by tensile test and thermo gravimetric (TG) analysis.The adsorption of formaldehyde, toluene and benzene onto compound foam were investigated respectively. The morphological structure of foam would partly explain their different adsorption capacities. In addition, the polyurethane foam and polyurethane /bamboo charcoal composites were treated respectively through such experiments as soil burial, artificial accelerated aging and the approach combining two disposals. Then the degradation properties of the two materials were compared in the following aspects: the appearance, weight loss, thermo gravimetric analysis(TGA), scanning electronic microscope(SEM). The results showed that the composites were more degradable than the common foams.Therefore, this type of material not only met the mechanical requirements, but also possessed new function. Moreover, the degradability of the composites was improved. In the views of economy and environment, the composites deserve research.
