As advanced manufacturing develops quickly which depends on the information integration technology, Visual Manufacturing attracts the extensive focus in the Manufacturing, and has become the one of hot fields investigating on the science and business. Laser cutting has been found widely using in the manufacturing industry because of its many advantages, such as the wide-range cutting scale, high cutting speed, narrow cutting kerf, small Heat-Affected zones, and flexible cutting process and so on. And laser cutting is one of the most consummate technologies. It is innovative to combine the laser machining with VM which take the laser cutting as the objective. Visual Manufacturing connecting with laser machining refer to the NC technology, laser interaction theory with materials, CAD/CAM, and simulation, so the investigation has the significant academic meaning.(1) In this paper introducing Visual Manufacturing and laser cutting background, definition, application and its developing present at home and abroad.The background, significance of the selected topic is discussed and solving questions.(2) Taking LMT-5040 laser NC machine tool as the entity model, laser cutting virtual machine was established. Its machining environment was also constructed for virtual manufacturing of laser cutting. Meanwhile the relation between the kerf width and "tool" of the virtual laser beam was established so as to construct interface of the VM.(3) Research on the basal theory of laser cutting. An example of stainless steel, investigating the laser interaction with material, types for laser cutting and analyzing energy during laser cutting. Building the numerical modeling for laser cutting, through simplified modeling, building on academic forecasted formula for cutting kerf, meanwhile calculating the width of cutting kerf,provide the academic data for experiment. And the experiment research of laser cutting stainless steel is carried out, the effect of the processing parameters (including laser power, cutting velocity, et al.) on the cutting quality is discussed in detail. In search of the best parameter group, compare with calculate value and experiment value for laser cutting width, analyzing the reason of error, and modify calculate value in the best parameter group, obtaining modify calculate formula in the best parameter group.(4) Analyzing technics of laser cutting, using CAXA software program the NC procedure, then cutting in the virtual machine tool, meanwhile checking the right for NC procedure.
