In this study, the applications of UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UVDRS) in the qualitative and quantitative determination of the pigments, inorganic oxide and specific species as well as the Near-infrared diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (NIRDRS) in the determination of war industry materials were revealed which provided valuable experience in the research of various applications of both diffuse spectroscopy. The single or double-component qualitative and quantitative determinations of the simple or mixed edible pigments were proposed by using continuous wavelength ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometry without any chemical separation procedure. The method treated the reflectance coefficient and component concentration of samples. For the determination of double-component pigments, the method of PCR was applied to set up a constrained optimization model which could be used to determine mixed edible pigments quantitatively. The surface UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra of Fe2O3 supported metal catalysts of SiO2 was also studied, and the relationship between the Fe2O3 concentration and the reflectance spectrum was revealed as well. Based on the analysis of the UVDRS of the catalysts with different amount of promoters Fe2O3, the dependent relationship between the characteristic strength of the UVDRS and the Fe2O3 was worked out.The main samples 'gingko leaves' were collected from different seasons and different growth periods. UVDRS method was used to obtain the diffuse reflectance changes with the growth of the gingko leaves. In the determination of war and industry materials, the NIRDRS method was applied to test the high reflectivity material and the common reflectivity material. The result showed that the near infrared reflectance spectrum of the former was obviously higher than the common one which gave an valuable reference in the research of reflectance capability of war and industry materials.
