Laser, rising in early sixties of 20 century, has affected many technique fields. Because of the special characters of excellent direction, exclusive monochromatic and intense correlation, laser is applied more and more. In recent years, laser cutting and engraving machine, as a high-tech product based on computer numerical control, emerges in market which has abroad application and numerous requirement.The laser cutting and engraving system designed by this project adopted a principal and subordinate structure. The CAD software in PC is responsible for graph and image dispose and data transmission. After calculating the interpolation of received data, DSP in control system executed the cutting and carving machining. In this paper, first introduced the technique and process of CAD software design for laser cutting and carving system. Starting with software interface and function requirement, designed the software structure with Object-Orient technique and Document/View structure. The CAD software designed by using VC++6.0 have a succinct and clear user interface to operate, including an ample function menu to set multiform and flexible parameter for cutting and carving, including some unique function for laser cutting and carving system as drawing carving area, machining preview and so on. Next, analyzed the format of the vector graph and bitmap image, and researched the disposing technique of this numeric image. In this paper I expounded the research of the technique and process of laser cutting and carving, and proposed a set of optimal algorithmic suitable for the requirement of laser cutting and carving path in this project. Optimization of laser cutting path can be formulated as a generalized traveling salesman problem (GTSP) by graph theory. Proposed an optimal algorithm: first building an arborization according to the ubiety of contours; then taking the machining starting point as the datum mark and searching all of the nodes on the tree from the inside to the outside. After the analysis of laser carving path, according to the character of large area, complex contours and 16 grey scale, a basic algorithm of double direction scan carving can be used. Finally, the process of software designing and programming is given.The CAD software of laser machining researched in this project have friendly user interface, powerful function and cooperating well with hardware. The analyzed result of arithmetic and machining-path simulation shows that the image disposing method and the machining-path arithmetic proposed in this paper have an effect on improving speed, efficiency and quality of laser machining, and the predictive design object are attained essentially.
