Abstract As a new technology of products design,Virtual Product Development is a revolution to traditional method of products design.Based on Virtual Product Development ,engineers can find underlying problems just during products design by simulating the mechanical system,and revise them quickly so as to throw off the Physical Prototype,which not only can save the cost of design and manufacturing and reduce the cycle of products development,but also can elevate products'performance and enhance products'competition.This article uses advanced CAD/CAE software—PROE,ADAMS and ANSYS to build the integrated system platform based on theory of Dynamics of Multibody System for the purpose of resolving the engineering problems of General Retarder design,and analyses the performance of ZQ100 Drill Pipe Tong.This article studies the following aspects:1.Using the general Mechanial System Simulation software—ADAMS to build the virtual prototype of Drill Pipe Tong,transmission error and intervention of the mechanism.2.Using the advanced Finite Element Analysis software—ANSYS to build the FEA model of the totle mechanism and key part- notched gear and sloped Cam,and analyzing the stress and strain of them.3.Realizing the meaningful Computer Aided Eegineer(CAE) under the intergrated environment of PROE-ANSYS-ADAMS-MATLAB software.4.Developing the Drill Pipe Tong monitor control system with the function preventing explosion, match the ZQ100 Drill Pipe Tong and and are put into use, to satisfy the range measuring , guarding , controlling , recording power tongs moment of torsion value and to handle a request.The method of Virtual Prototype building and Finite Element Analysis is theoretically meaning and practically valuable for design and performance simulation complex mechical system.
