Trace toxic organic contaminations, most of which have characteristics of bioaccumulation, carcinogenicity, teratogenecity, mutagenesis, and chronic toxicity, make the research of assessing the water safety and water treatments a concerned project in the field of environmental sciences. The pollutants were enriched by the solid phase extraction and analyzed by the gas chromatography/ electrical conductivity detector (GC/MECD) and chromatography / mass spectrum (GC/MS) in this paper. The toxic organic pollutants including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), phenols (PHs), estrogens (ESs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were studied targets. The concentrations and removal of them in different water treatments were studied, the removal efficiency of different water treatments were compared and assessed as well.As a result of study, it can be concluded:1,The toxic organic pollutants in source water was brought in by the sediments and atmosphere and their concentrations were lower than the relative criteria in China.; The PAHs pollution in Tangshan drinking water was serious and mostly came from burning of fossil fuels. The concentrations of other toxic organic pollutants should not go beyond the relative limits of relative criterions in China; In Beijing municipal wastewater, the PAHs were mostly came from burn and car's tail gas, the OCPs had the recent input except the historical residual. The concentrations and composition of PAHs,OCPs,PHs and VOCs had apparent correlation to seasons and regions. The concentrations and composition of PCBs was influenced by the regions but not by seasons. The concentrations of estrogens in effluents water of all plants were close to the reported levels in literatures. Other pollutants'single and total concentrations were not beyond the relative limits of relative criterions in China.2,In the water circulation, most of OCPs were biodegraded in wastewater and reuse water. PAHs were removed in treatment stage which had high waterborne concentrations. Both adsorption and biodegradation had important effect on PAHs. The highest removal efficiency of PCBs was in the reuse water and the removal quantity in it was the same as in wastewater treatment stages. The toxicity equivalency quantity(TEQ) reduced after oagulate-filtration treatment. Most of the PHs and ESs were biodegraded in wastewater treatment stages.3,The removal effeciency of PAHs,OCPs,PCBs in bio-activated sludge treatment was influenced by temperature. However, it had no significant correlation with the concertration in the influent. The trend of removal efficiency varied from season was summer>spring>winter. However, the removal effect of them by oagulate and filtration treatments and PHs,ESs by the three treatments were not influenced by seasons.4,In the three bio-activated sludge treatments, the traditional air aeration bio-activated sludge in Gaobeidian did best in removing the OCPs and PHs pollution; The oxidation ditch bio-activated sludge in Jiuxianqiao did best in remove PAHs and VOCs pollution; The A-A-O bio-activated...
