Nowadays, worm gearing which has higher performance in bearing capacity, transmission efficiency and transmission precision is needed in modern industry products. In order to meet this demand, two measures can be taken to deal with it; one is to adopt new material with higher strength and to take heat treatment on surface, the other is to enhance the manufacture accuracy, such as to improve worm shape precision or to deduce its surface roughness. So, worm grinding technology research and development has important and real meaning. In this dissertation, the grinding simulation of straight sided normal worm has been researched, and the way how to modeling the worm gearing and grinding wheel with high accuracy and how to simulate worm gearing grinding with smooth motion also been discussed.Firstly, surface equation of straight sided normal worm is built on the basis of differential geometry and spatial meshing theory. Then this equation is used to set up solid model of the straight sided normal worm with a set of worm parameters which are derived from national standard. The modeling tools which are used here is MATLAB and CATIA.Secondly, grinding processes of straight sided normal worm are summarily researched. Then the shape of known worm and envelope theory are used to set up axial section shape of grinding wheel and corresponding revolution surface equation; furthermore, the profile of the grinding wheel which is got from above theory is modeled with software MATLAB and CATIA.At last, the worm and grinding wheel models are used to realize grinding simulation of worm gearing with C++ programming language and OpenGL interface tool which are known as a basic tool for visualization in scientific computing.
