As an important ligand, 1,10-phenanthroline has been extensively used in most fields of chemistry. The unit is rigid, and provides two aromatic nitrogen whose unshared electron pairs are beautifully placed to act cooperatively in binding transition metal cations.In this thesis, 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione, 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dioxime, 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-diamino, 5,6- diol -1,10-phenanthroline, N,N'- dimethyl- aminoethylamine -5,6- Phenanthroline were synthesized using 1,10-phenanthroline as the starting material. The N, N'-dimethylaminoethylamine-5,6-Phenanthroline contain both hard and soft nitrogen atoms which enhance its coordination variety. In this thesis, there are many exploring jobs in synthesizing the Schiff-base ligands of 1, 10-phenanthroline. These jobs pro- vide many experimentation and theory base for the future job.The ligand of pyridine carboxylic acid can variously react with transition metal cations, lanthanum metal cations and other metal cations.By using pyridine carboxylic acid as ligands, one complexe has been successfully designed and synthesized by hydrothermal methods. Studied its crystal properties.
