Nowadays, open architecture is becoming the current trend of CNC technology, and its main goal is to realize the modularization, reconfigurability and expandability of CNC system. Using open architecture would improve the system's flexibility. So the users will be allowed to choose functional module, even to integrate, modify, and expand system, which can respond to the market rapidly and economically. The motion control software and machining simulation module is designed and developed with Visual C++ and the redeveloping tools of AutoCAD-ObjectARX in the thesis, which is based on a reconstructive turning -milling composite NC machine tool controlled by PMAC(Programmable Multiple Axis Controller). The main studied works are as follows:(1) The construction of the CNC system and the openness of PMAC are discussed. The open CNC system consisted of PC-NC system is analyzed and the communication funciton between the upper computer and PMAC is achieved.(2) The CNC system software including the automatically machining module, the manually editing module, the MDI module, the UG based machining module, the systematic parameter module and the machining simulation module is developed with Visual C++ and ObjectARX. The simulation of real-time machining process driven by NC code is accomplished. All the software is constructed in the way of modularization, which has a friend user's interface.(3) The 3-dimentional model of the NC machine tool is established using AutoCAD, which is the basis for the virtual machining.(4) The function of the linear interpolation, the circle interpolation and the compensation of cutter radius in the machining simulation module is fulfilled by which the simulation of turning and milling is conducted. The simulation of real-time machining process with NC codes is realized, which demonstrates the feasibility and efficiency of the virtual machining system presented in the thesis.
