As the development of the laser technology, the application of the laser has rapidly developed in the fields of military affairs, medical treatment and machining, more and more people attach importance to the laser protection. The laser protective materials have some shortages on transmittance of visible light, visual angle of protection and wave band of protection at present. It is much significant to develop a new type of optical-limited laser protective material with broad wave band, high transmittance of visible light and rapid response. Phthalocyanine(Pc) and metallophthalocyanine(MPc) have gained considerable interests for their optical limiting properties. In this dissertation, a kind of MPc and five metallonaphthalocyanine (MNc) were synthesized. The molecular structure of the compounds were characterized by means of the elemental analysis, the infrared (IR) spectrum and the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrum, which proved that the topical compounds were successfully synthesized. And the nonlinear optical properties were tested by Z-scan technique. The compounds had strong absorption in the B-region and Q-region, according to the ultraviolet visible (UV-VIS) spectrum of the topical compounds. It showed the peak position of absorption in Q-region led to red shift about 100 nm compared with non-substituted Pc. By the comparison of electronic spectrum and Z-scan of different substituted MPc and MNc, the peripheral substituted MNc had better nonlinear optical properties. It provided a new method to the improvement of the performance of reverse saturable absorption of the laser protective materials.
