In recent years, mineral powder as lubricant (grease) additives is important in the research area of materials.Serpentine is a kind of magnesium silicate mineral with a layered structure containing hydroxyl group.Serpentine powder as lubricant (grease) additives can obviously reduce coefficient of friction, decrease wear of surface and have a certain self-repairing function.Now natural serpentine mineral powder is often used as lubricant additives.Natural serpentine mineral is abundant, but it needs to be purified and ultrafinely ground before being used.Using magnesium chloride, sodium hydroxide and diatomite as raw materials, in the high pressure kettle micro-nano serpentine is successfully synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis method.During the contrasting experiments, the structure and morphology of products are characterized by XRD, TEM, etc.Influence of filling rate, concentration of alkali, reaction temperature, reaction time and the state of reaction system on the product are studied respectively and the optimum experiment conditions are attained.When the filling rate is 78.1%, the concentration of alkali 1 mol/L, the temperature 200℃, reaction time 24h, and the system at a vibrating velocity of one per 0.5h, the chemical formula of the product is as followed:(Mg5.69,Fe0.04,Na0.35,Ca0.13,Al0.02)[(Al0.25,Si3.75)O10](OH)8,The average diameter of powder of serpentine powder is 2631nm. It can be used as lubricant additives.riction experiments show that synthesized powder of serpentine as an additive can increase anti-wear ability and reduce the friction compared with foundation oil and natural serpentine mineral additive. The friction temperature of this synthesized serpentine powder is below that of foundation oil and natural serpentine.The synthesized serpentine has excellent anti-wear, friction reducing and self-repairing properties.
