In the past, our environmental monitoring was largely used the "sampled and measured manually in the laboratory" method. With the development of technology, today's environmental monitoring activities can take place in an automatic, intelligent, and interactive way at real time. Facing with the water resource scarce and serious pollution problems, it is essential to enhance the water-quality control. Total phosphorus (TP) and total nitrogen (TN) are two major contaminants. High concentration of phosphate and nitride can cause water eutrophication. In order to monitor the content of the phosphate and nitride, the conventional "sampled and measured" method is considered out-dated because of its lengthy and complicated procedure, resulting in great disappointment. To achieve continuous, online, and rapid picture of the real situation and reduce the high cost of importing foreign equipment monitoring, it makes great sense to manufacture a TP&TN on-line automatic monitoring system.This dissertation covers most aspects of the TP&TN on-line automatic monitoring system by exploring its monitoring theory, system design, software's design and realization, and the communication between hardware and software. First of all, this dissertation introduces some TP&TN analyzing methods and their automatic analyzers. Secondly with using the ultraviolet catalyst-K2S2O8 colorimetric methods, which are referring to "GB/T 11893-1989 Standard" and "GB/T 11894-1989 Standard" , introduces the whole system design and hardware structure design. Then focuses on the software design and communication protocol design, as well as validating the software system. Finally a study on how to build the monitoring industrial Ethernet LAN and build a large network of remote monitoring is presented.This monitoring system will be using modern technology of automation,computer science and advanced networking technology. In conclusion, this monitoring system embraces high stability, excellent expansibility, and perfect compatibility.
