With the increasing application of nonferrous alloys and the development of special casting technology, squeeze castings are being used widely increasingly. Thus the task of design and manufacture of squeeze casting dies becomes more and more onerous, which ask for an urgent design transformation form traditional style to the CAD technology. Therefore the subject of establishing 3D standard-part library of squeeze-casting dies is put for reducing the repetitive work of designer in the course of squeeze-casting dies' design, predigesting the design course, improving the efficiency and quality of CAD software, shortening the period of developing product.On the basis of the domestic and abroad research data and the situation about establishing standard-part library, 3D standard-part library of squeeze-casting dies is established with solid modeling methods of feature-based parameterized driving. This thesis analyzes the basic idea of developing standard-part library, introduces solid modeling methods of feature-based parameterized driving, and develops a practical 3D standard-part library of squeeze-casting dies with SolidWorks 2005 as the developing platform, Visual Basic 6.0 as developing tool and Access database as tool of managing all the data of squeeze-casting dies standard parts.Through the study of this subject, some results and conclusions are drawn as follows:(1) This thesis puts forward the constitute structure of 3D standard-part library system of squeeze-casting dies and make some research in establishing methods of standard-part model library of squeeze-casting dies, standard-part model parameterized library as well as the user management system.(2) In the course of developing software system, the ADO database interface technique of Microsoft has been used in this thesis, in order to solve the database linking problem, which speeds the runtime.(3) Dimension parameter of standard parts in the system is credible. Because all these dimensions come from squeeze-casting dies concerned handbooks which are widely accepted in the design and manufacture .The system can be used as a digital design handbook of squeeze-casting dies.(4) The system can be loaded into SolidWorks as a plug-in unit. It can be executed just in SolidWorks platform. That's to say, it has the uniform interface with SolidWorks whose interface is friendly, beautiful, and highly visualized. What's more, the system is expediently transplantable and extensible.It is a very important foundational work to establish standard-part library of dies, which plays a key role in the practical application of CAD/CAM software. The development of 3D standard-part library of squeeze-casting dies is not onlysignificant to the further development of SolidWorks, but also irreplaceable to thedesign of squeeze-casting dies and the popularization and standardization of itscomponents.
