The content of heavy metals such as copper , lead , cadmium in environmental samples is at low level .It can't be directly determined by traditional flame atomic absorption spectrometry ,because it needs preconcentration by extraction firstly . Although it can be determined by more sensitive graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry , lead and cadmium volatilize easily , the matrix interference of analytical process in practical sample will be more serious at the higher cineration temperature . However , flame atomic absorption spectrometry with coupling flow injection with mini-column on-line preconcentration and atomic absorption spectrometry provides high sensitivity , good precision , high automation , low consume sample and reagent and strong freedom from interferences . This technique is widely applied for determination of trace heavy metal element in environmental samples . The activated carbon is easily eluted , enriched many elements and has strong adsorption capability , which make it the common enrichment material for FIA-AAS with mini-column . Selecting right complexing agent or introduce loaded materials with various functional groups on activated carbon can greatly improve the selectivity of activated carbon enrichment .At the same time, it also can enhance enrichment efficiency and application extension.This is a new method that fastly determines sequentially for Cu , Pb , Cd , Co and Ni by coupling flow injection with activated carbon mini-column preconcentration and flame atomic absorption spectrometry , that is , activated carbon as mini-column sorbent and right complexing agent. We also prepared chelate reagent-activated carbon sorbent with high selective and adsorption, applied for field sampling technique .This method achieves on-line preconcentration and determination of heavy metal in environmental water by FIA-FAAS . It is a convenient , sensitive , accurate and applied method for analyzing Cu , Pb , Co and Ni in environmental water fastly.
