Study On Preparation And Properties Of Bamboo Charcoal-Chitosan Composites

According to specific porosity of bamboo charcoal and excellent adsorption ofchitosan, a kind of composites of having adsorption ability based on bamboo charcoalloaded chitosan (BC/CTS) and with sodiun alginate as cross-linking agent was developed.The microstructure and the physical and chemical characteristics of BC/CTS werecharacterized by SEM, element analysis, FT-IR, XRD, BET, and so on. The adsorptionperformance of BC/CTS composites for dyestuff, tannic acid, mental ions as well assome influencing factors were investigated. In addition, the regeneration methods of theBC/CTS composites were evaluated. Further more, the effects of actual application of theBC/CTS in processing waste water from piggery were studied in order to develop a kindof BC/CTS composites with both effective adsorption and environmental safety. Theresults showed that:(1) The compound film of chitosan and sodiun alginate was loaded on bamboocharcoal equably. There was some strong interaction and good compatibility betweenbamboo charcoal, chitosan and sodium alginate. The specific surface area of BC/CTSwas 11.55 m²/g.(2)BC/CTS possessed good acid-proof function and favorable adsorptionability. The adsorbent could adsorb 98% of Cr⁶⁺, 81% of Cu²⁺ and 92% of Pb²⁺ and hasgood adsorption properties to acid red B and acid green O, the saturation capacities were664mg/g, 336mg/g, respectively.(3)Langmuir isotherm and Freundlich isotherm weresuggested as the appropriate types to depict adsorbent's adsorption. The adsorption forCr⁶⁺ was in high speed and the adsorption process was close to second-order reactionkinetics equations. (4)BC/CTS could be regenerated easily with alkali, the efficiency ofthe adsorbent could still attain 90% of original amount after being used for threetimes.(5)There was an outstanding effect of application in processing waste water ofpiggery.
