Nowadays, our nation's culture should be tapped in the sphere of our country's design. More and more designers argue that the research of the modem Chinese-style furniture's designing form is important to the developing of our nation's furniture. However, due to different reasons, it's insufficient for the research of the modern Chinese-style furniture's theory. To be a furniture's designer, without the nation's characteristic and scientific designing theory, it's difficult to design the outstanding production, even in the design's crisis. Therefore, it's necessary for taking in the original theory to lead the creation. In addition, the experience of furniture's design in the brilliant Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty can be used for our reference. The purpose of my thesis strives to compose a beneficial theory structure to the specific creation of the modern Chinese-style furniture.Semiotics is a rising course in 20th century. It's closely related to the development of linguistics and structuralism. Architectual semiotics formed after 1960s that solves the "Significance Crisis" of modernism. And it's the foundation of post-modernism. As the semiotics's developing, the research are used in variety of subjects, and it becomes the hot item in the article research area. The thesis is concise and systematic to introduce some concepts and induce the vocabulary of Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty. It researches into the furniture of Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty from syntactics, semantics and pragmatics. It inquires into the organizational rules, restrict element, the significance, and the expression in modern Chinese- style furniture. Furthermore, it discusses the characteristic of syntactics and semantics in the modern Chinese-style furniture. Moreover, it analyzes it influence in the modern Chinese-style furniture's creation.At a consequence, from the analysis of Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty's symbol form and the ponder of the modern Chinese-style furniture, I argue that the modern Chinese-style furniture's semiotics thought should succeed to the best quality and sign in traditional furniture and culture. It combines with the modern design to create circumstances newly. The theory of sign constitutes the new sign. It creates the Chinese nation's characteristic and people's favorite production.
