The velocity distribution of gas-phase above the separation plate of CTST was measured and studied in an experiment column with diameter of 600mm. In this paper, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) was used to investigate gas-phase's turbulent flow properties above the separation plate of CTST.At first, by using hot-film anemometry, the flow filed above CTST separation plate was measured and studied under different operating conditions. The results showed that: the gas above the separation plate was ejected from the sieve holes and the channel between the sieve tray and the separation tray, the gas flow process was from bottom to top, and diffused. The gas flow progress was complex. The gas velocity distribution was different at the different height planes. As a whole, the gas velocity was on the small side above the separation plate. The gas velocity was on the big side between the two covers and between the cover and the column, and the change of the speed was also comparatively acute.Secondly, the process of gas flowing above the separation plate is simulated by applying computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and a three-dimensional gas-dynamic model based on the RNG k-εturbulence model was used to describe the gas-phase turbulent flow above the separation plate of CTST, and was solved numerically by the method of finite volume method. For solving the pressure-velocity coupling equation, the SIMPLE algorithm was used and a commercial CFD package-FLUENT was adopted to solve other equations. Results showed the gas-phase hydrodynamics characters above the separation plate. The velocity values acquired by the simulation had a good agreement with the experimental results, which showed the high degree of accuracy of the model, and could be used to predict the flow field above the separation plate of CTST.
