Grinding mills have been broadly used in metallurgy, minerals, electric power, chemical and building materials industries, in which liners especially for wet-grinding mills tend to be worn much more seriously due to the interaction of abrasive, impact of grinding media and corrosion of slurry. To explore the wear mechanism involved in milling processing, modification of Rare-earth(RE) high manganese steel was investigated under the laboratory conditions in this study. It was concluded that reducing the concentration of manganese and adding minute amount Rare-earth elementSN molybdenum and vanadium affected the corrosive impact abrasion properties of the high manganese steel. Theses minute amount elements generated the second-phase particles among the austenitic matrixes and refine grains to improve the corrosive impact abrasion properties of the high manganese steel. Three kinds of modified high-manganese steels containing 0.05%,0.08%and 0.1 % Rare-earth element respectively were cast. After being treated by water toughening and precipitation hardening treatment, the general corrosion properties of the samples were tested with a MLD-10 wear tester under the impact energies of 2.0J and 1.2J. The mechanisms of the corrosive impact abrasion were observed with the help of testing quality losing, surface hardness and depth of work hardened layer after 11k 21k 31k 4h and 5h and the surface layer and subsurface stratum microstructures. The research results show that the mechanisms of the corrosive impact abrasion of the same material are different under the different impact energies and the mechanisms of the corrosive impact abrasion of the different materials have a large difference under the same impact energy, and the resistance of impact corrosion and abrasion of the modified high-manganese steel containing 0.1 % Rare-earth is best.
