Comparing with general composite materials, intercalation composite is formed by the intercalating either organic monomers or polymers into inorganic materials with stratum shape, many properties could be modified markedly.The background and ideal of our research were gained from literature summarization, at the same time, experiment scheme was obtained for preparation of intercalation composites of polymer and kaolinite.For activating the kaolinite, the thermal treatment, ultrasound/acide, dimethylsulfoxide/potassium acetate were introduced. After been activated, the particle size of kaolinite was reduced, the powder surface area was increased sharply, the absorb ability was strength, the basal spacing was increased two times and the organic property was modified also. The activated kaolinite was used as precursor in the preparation of polymer/kaolinite composite. The stability of activated kaolinite was studied through thermal treatment and sonication. The resulting compound was characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric ananlysis and differential analysis.In the research of preparation of poly (acrylic acid)/kaolinite composites, the modified kaolinite was used as precursor. The composites were synthesized with the help of anti-suspending polymerization. The final compounds were studied by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric ananlysis and differential analysis.The polyacrylonitrile/kaolinite composites, polystyrene/kaolinite composites, styrene-acrylonitrile/kaolinite composites were prepared as the synthesized of poly (acrylic acid)/kaolinite composites, intercalation and emulsion polymerization were used in this process. The final compounds were studied by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric ananlysis and differential analysis.According to the characterization, the efficient technique was gained for modifying kaolinite, and polymer/kaolinite intercalation composite have better performance comparing to pristine polymer.
