In recent years, the synthesis and applications of Schiff base and its metal complexes have attracted more attention of chemists. One of those is the salen-metal complex. Comparing to metalloporphyrin, the salen-M complexes have several advantages: First, it is easier to be synthesized. Second, an asymmetric surrounding can be introduced around the salen ligands to enhance the asymmetric selectivity. Finally, some appropriate substituted groups can be introduced into 3,5-position of the salen ligands to adjust their steric and electronic effect.Mannich reaction is one of the most important carbon-carbon bond formation reactions in organic synthesis and an atom-economy reaction. P-amino carbonyl compounds are very useful compounds as building blocks in the synthesis of Pharmaceuticals and natural products that can be easily formed via a Mannich reaction. In this paper, SalenZn complexs were synthesized and these SalenZn complexs were used to catalyze Mannich reaction of aromatic amines with aromatic aldehydes and dimethylmalonic ester to generate corresponding P-amino carbonyl compounds from good to excellent yield. There are 16 new compounds that were fully characterized.Recently the synthesis of five membered carbonate are more and more convenient, but the report about its use is rare. In this thesis, we developed a useful method of oligomerization of propylene carbonate and bisphenol A initiated by organic base. We found that the mechanism of the reaction initiated by organo base is different from the mechanism initiated by KHCO3. The mechanism of oligomerization was also detailed discussed.
