Nowadays, starch, PVA and acrylic size are the three kinds of sizes in textile industry. PVA can form strong film and has good performance on sizing in spite of some defections as a size. It is one of the major sizes for polyester/cotton yarns. But PVA has some problems in environmental protection, it will cause ecological contamination because it can't be decomposed, which will lead to deposit after long period of time.In the past twenty years, great progress had made in research of denaturalization of starch and new acrylic size. At present, the studies focus on the denaturalization of starch and development of new acrylic size. Earlier acrylic size has the merits of adhesion and flexibility and demerits of hygroscope, tackiness and too soft film which limit the size using in large quantity. This paper studies a new acrylic size, aiming at solving above problems and making new acrylic size which properties higher than or as same as PVA. This paper confirms the following parameters: the method of placing monomers the whisking velocity the temperature and lasting time of the chemical reaction the choice and volume of the emulsion and the solicitation agent, then add nanomaterial to acrylic size to modify acrylic size, which will improve its performance.Before modified by nanomaterial, the nanomaterial is dispersed well. Because its high active, the nanomaterial will reunite easily. Nanomaterial's high active will fiercely adsorb water to form R-OH, which will increase interaction between nanomaterial. This will lead to reunite more easily. Also new connection will create between R-OHs, this is another reason lead to reunite, which will affect nanomaterial's disperse. There are two methods to disperse nanomaterials: it is dispersed by machine and dispersed by ultrasonic. Now the efficiency method to disperse nanomaterials is to join in dispersant and to bundle organically or with mineral.Nanomaterial used in the experiment is produced by Jiangsu-Hehai limited company: pathway of nanomaterial≤35nm, specific surface area≥400 m2/g,purity≥99. 5 %,white powder . We choice sodium silicate and oleic acid as dispersant, oleic acid is a kind of unsaturation carboxylic acid surface modifier, oleic acid not only as surface modifier but also as emulsifying agent in the liquor. Oleic acid can use its double bond to take part in composition. In this test ,solid to liquid ratio 0.5:100 put TiO2 into distilled water ,then put 0.5% sodium silicate and 0.2% oleic acid as dispersants, adjust PH to 8-10, beat up for half an hour in the stirring machine to let the powder distract, then transfer it to ultrasonic cleaning machine to distract for an hour.The new-type acrylate size is synthesized by acrylic acid ethyl acrylate butyl acrylate and methyl methyacrylate. Select SDS and OP-10 as compound emulsifying agent, the proportion is SDS:OP-10= 3.4: 1, which account for 4% of the total monomers, choose (NH4)2SO4 to be solicitation agent which account for 0.3%-1% of the total monomers. After the size is synthesized, adding distracted nanomaterial to modify the size.The performance modified by nanomaterials normal acrylic size and PVA are tested in this paper. Contrasted with normal acrylic size and PVA in properties, a conclusion can be found that the new acrylic size is better than the normal acrylic size, and it is a new kind of acrylic size that may take place of PVA as a major size which blends with starch for sizing polyester/cotton yarns, and that acrylic size can be modify by nanomaterial.
