Curing agengt plays an impotant role in the application of the epoxy resin. Irnidazole and imidazole derivatives are one type of the curing agent. Especially in the past of these years, with the development of the electronic industry, the quantity of imidazole type curing agent of epoxy resin has been increased by 15% to 20% year by year. So far, the quantity has reached up to more than 90% of the total output in the use of imidazole and imidazole derivatives. Meanwhile, the patents in this area are increased largely every year.This paper is designed to synthesize a series of modified imidazole derivatives. The structure of them which were token by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometry(FT-IR), were confirmed truly in accord with their designed product. The effect parameters of synthesis technology which would affect the product, such as the proportion of the reaction material, reaction time, solvents, catalysts, were systemly analyzed and discussed. Then the proper condition of the synthesis technology can be concluded. Firstly, the imidazole derivatives were synthesized by methyl acrylate, some organic acid, and metal ion to modify imidazole. Then on the basic of these, the products of modified imidazole organic acid salts and modified imidazole metal ion complex were produced by adding organic acid or metal salts in the methyl acrylate modified imidazole system. Most of the products were liquid compound. It means they can be in compatible well with the epoxy resin while mixing them as curing agent.Then the single part curing systems were produced by mixing the epoxy resin and the modified imidazole derivatives using as curing agent. The parameters of curing technology of the curing systems were measured by differential scanning calorimetry, such like the best curing temperature, the curing time, the best concentration of curing agent to epoxy resin. The storage stability of the curing systems was studied by FT-IR. The results show that the products of only methyl acrylate modified imidazole only seal the reaction activity point of first nitrogen on the imidazole circus. The reaction activity of the methyl carylate modified imidazole to epoxy radical decreased but not seriously. Because the reaction activity points were sealed, the reaction activity of methyl carylate modified imidazole organic acid salts and methyl carylate modified imidazole metal ion complex to epoxy radical decreased seriously. The results also show the curing system of modified imidazole derivatives/epoxy resin has better storage stability than that of the imidazole/epoxy resin. And the storage time of the curing systems of modified imidazole derivative/epoxy resin prolonged obviously. It reached the anticipant objective. Meantime, the curing kinetics of the curing systems of modified imidazole/epoxy resin were analyzed, and the formula of the reaction rate were calculated. And the curing mechanism were also discussed in this paper.
