The primary experiment in this study is on the biological granular activated carbon (BGAC) treating the phenol wastewater, and the mechanism of it is studied here based on the parametric variations of the dissolved oxygen and pH etc and the control experiments including single activated carbon and single acclimated sludge treating system of it. As follows, the detailed contents of this study include: (1) the study on the treating effect, mechanic and environmental influencing factors of the granular activated carbon; (2) the study on the treating effect and mechanic of the acclimated sludge; (3) the study on the treating effect and mechanic of the BGAC.The results show that: (1) The main bacteria in the sludge acclimated by phenol wastewater are Pseudomonas and Micrococci, which can better degrade the phenol and do critical actions in the process; (2) The granular activated carbon can highly adsorb the phenol and microbe, and it can reduce the phenol impact load on the microbe at the same of removing phenol; (3) Three reactors of BGAC, activated carbon and sludge are used to treat the phenol wastewater, the initial concentration of which is 75mg/L. The average removal efficiencies of phenol are 98%, 80% and 60% after continuously treating for seven days; (4) The treatment effect of phenol removed by BGAC are obviously better than that of activated carbon and sludge. After stabilizing for period of time, the microbe adsorbed by activated carbon can bioregenerate the carbon, remain the useful adsorption volume and prolong the operating life of it.
