Metallographic analysis technology is an important measure used in current material research. Because the high price and the complex hardware requirements, the software specially used in metallographic processes can not satisfy the need in production, teaching, scientific research in very great degree. Making use of Word 2000 as the platform, this paper built a metallographic process, collecting and analysis system based on the Microsoft Office software. Capture of an image is achieved through CMOS camera by using the insertion menu in Office, and then it can be saved as a digital image, or inserted in Word.Image can be transformed to black and white pattern or gradient pattern very conveniently by using the picture tool fence in Office or the imagery processing tools in Photo Editor. Parameters such as size, direction, brightness, the contrast and smooth of the image are all can be processed though this method. A satisfying denoise result can be achieved, and the image quality can be greatly enhanced through image treatment.Based on the test lines, the one-dimensional and two-dimensional parameter about the metallographic structure can be measured in Word 2000 and Photo Editor after the actual dimensions demarcated. The structure can be quantitatively analyzed correspondingly.Metallographic process and analysis system based on the MS Office software can be used in examination, teaching and scientific research, especially in medium, small enterprise engaged in melting, casting and steel rolling. It greatly reduced the time used in gaining the metallographic, reduced the technical work, enhanced the efficiency and the accuracy.
