Composites were widely used in aeronautics and astronautics area because of its property. CAD/CAM tools were needed in Packing and NC Cutting process for the specialty of composites. Rectangular packing was the base of composites laminates and many algorithms were presented by domestic and foreign scholars. In this paper, a new algorithm was proposed after the studying and analyzing many related algorithms. This algorithm could be used in optimization of composite laminates.Some researches had been done in this paper. First an improved rectangular packing algorithm―― Lowest Outline Best Fit Algorithm was proposed. Compared with other algorithm, it was efficient and time-saving. Genetic Algorithm and Simulate Anneal Algorithm were used in order to optimize the order of packing sequence. The impact of height and shape of packing graphic on packing result was also considered while designing the Fitness Function. So a better packing result could be gotten.Secondly, surrounding rectangular of composite laminates was made. Single row, double row and the filling of blank parts were also considered. Then the surrounding rectangular could be used in Lowest Outline Best Fit Algorithm.A composite laminate packing system was developed which used the Lowest Outline Best Fit Algorithm. This packing system was developed by VC++ including graphics inputting module, graphics combination module, packing optimization module, result saving module and post-disposal module. The packing result could also be modified manually.
