Pass design is one of the key works in shape production. An unsuitable pass may result in a number of problems like low productivity, high-energy consumption, unstable operation, waste product and so on. By means of a computer, such problems can be solved and process optimization can be realized. In allusion to the imbalance problem of rolling burden in high- drawing mill of Tangshan Steel, Software was developed in this research to help the selection of rolling pass and the optimization of burden balance.The main substances in this paper are stress tests of transformation using steel samples of 30MnSiV, statistics and analysis of original data, build of a mathematical model for transformation stress of 30MnSiV, build of a mathematical model for temperature and burden variation, optimized design of burden balance using dynamic programming method, developments of the software for optimization of burden balance and relative plotting function. The dynamic programming method was used initially in this research for high-drawing process.The program for"optimized design of burden balance for high-drawing"was written using Visual Basic 6.0 combined with Microsoft Access and AutoCAD. This combination gave the software a lot of advantages like saving of time, easy to operate, small in error and current in application. Only a single press is needed to get a suitable pass drawing according to the given parameters.
