Gravure press has a large market in domestic and abroad printing areas for their good quality and higher prsssing rates, and the system of automatic register controller is the important guarantee of the high precision pressing. With the development of micro-processor technology, embedded technology and other advanced technology widely used in the register control system, the accuracy and efficiency of register control system are greatly improved.A new PID control algorithm with threshold value is introduced based on the theory of the process printing system and the characteristic of the system model. The parameter setting is optimized by empirical method. According to the working feature of gravure process, a novel control and realizing method of automatic register controller for gravure printing is presented in this paper. The system is controlled in master-slave way. High-performance digital signal processor(DSP) is used for signal capture, data processing, communication with GUI. Embedded system(ARM S3C2410) can be used for GUI which deals with data monitoring, parameter setting, communication and etc. Specially, communication between DSP and GUI is realized by CAN bus.In this paper, the entire control system framework is given. The hardware design, software design and CAN communication protocol are introduced. The practical applications of the control system show that the system is reliable, steady, strong, real-time performance and scalability good, which can greatly improve the printing precision and printing speed of every gravure printing and it has a very good prospect in practice.
